Temecula Valley Council of PTAs Survey

1. D Letter Grade Survey

Temecula Valley Council of PTAs (TVC PTA) recently recommended to the TVUSD school board that the "D" letter grade return to the high school grading scale with 3 conditions:
1. That a "D" not be considered proficient in the four core subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts) and Foreign Language, and therefore, available academic support still be offered
2. A 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) be required for graduation.
3. Remediation and support for students at risk of receiving a ā€œDā€ or ā€œFā€ grade should start as soon as the student demonstrates difficulty with concepts or subject matter.
The school board has decided to leave the grading scale as it is for now (with no "D" grade available).

TVC PTA wants to hear from parents, educators, community members & students, on whether or not they want the D letter grade.

We ask that you please take this survey so we can determine further courses of action.

1. How many children do you have attending TVUSD schools? (If you are a student, please skip to question 2)

2. What grades are your children in? (If you are a student, what grade are you in?)

3. Were you aware of the TVUSD District Policy in which high school students can only be awarded the letter grades "A" (90-100%), "B" (80-89%), "C" (70-79%) and "F" (69% and below), offering no "D" (60-69%) letter grade?

4. Do you consider the No "D" policy fair to students?

5. As a student, knowing the "F" is 69% or below would you to try harder to get a "C"? (if you are not a student, please skip to question 6)

6. Were you aware that that TVUSD does not require a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) for graduation?

7. Would you like to see the "D" letter grade (60-69%) return to the high school grading scale?

8. How would you rate the amount of academic support (such as tutoring, summer school, or remedial classes) available for students who are struggling with subject matter in TVUSD high schools?
