Informed Consent to Participate in a Research Study
Study 1: Economics, Time perspective and happiness


A. PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND

The purpose of this research study is to better understand the relationship between economic decisions, Time perspective and happiness. The researcher, Jia Wei Zhang, is an undergraduate student at San Francisco State University. You have been invited to participate in this study because you are an adult 18 years old or older.

B. PROCEDURES
If you agree to participate in this research study, the following will occur:
Participation in this study will involve filling out a set of questionnaire that will ask you to make ratings about your economic decisions, time perspective and happiness. The researcher anticipates that your involvement will take 30 minutes. You will be debriefed at the end of this study.

C. RISKS
There will be no names involved. There is a possibility of loss of privacy; however the probability will be kept to as low as possible. All participant responses will be kept private and secured in a password protected computer file and undisclosed to persons outside of the research other than the researchers that are part of this study. Research designs often require that the full intent of the study not be explained prior to participation. When the study is completed, you will receive a full debriefing on the purpose and the procedures of the research
There is a chance that you may feel unease when answering some of the questions.

D. CONFIDENTIALITY
All of your responses will be anonymous. All the data collected will be for research purpose only. Data will not be accessed by anyone else other than the researchers themselves. Data will be destroyed at the end of the study.

E. DIRECT BENEFITS

There will be no direct benefits to you for participating in this research study.

F. COSTS

There will be no cost to you for participating in this research.


G. COMPENSATION

None.

Academic Credit Section: For San Francisco State University Students you may or may not receive academic credit for participating in this experiment depending on your professor’s policy. Academic credit will be issued to each participant when they print the last page of the experiment that states the completion of the experiment to their professor(s).

H. ALTERNATIVES

The alternative is not to participate in the research or alternatives methods of obtaining extra credit will be offered by professors.
