Introduction

The FIA seeks your views and opinions on a new funding opportunity, The Employer Ownership Fund, designed to support employers improve the productivity of their workforce.

The Employer Ownership of Skills pilot offers all employers direct access to public investment - £250m is available over two years – to design and deliver their own training solutions. The first phase of the pilot is currently open and is inviting proposals from employers – or groups of employers – for a total of £50m and the deadline for submission is the 26th April.

Over recent months the FIA and SkillsActive have met with the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), and it is clear that UKCES will look more favourably on large sector led submissions from a consortium of employers, which are seeking support to develop an innovative solution rather than simply increasing the scope of their existing plans.

Having experience of writing submissions to similar funds, the FIA and SkillsActive predict that drafting a submission will require two weeks of staff time and experience of developing similar submissions.

Therefore, the FIA is encouraging employers, where possible, to join together as consortium which the FIA can support and draft submissions for. Alternatively, the FIA and SkillsActive can provide limited support for individual employers.

This survey seeks to identify whether employers are currently planning to make submissions to the fund and what employers current priorities are regarding their workforce development.

Thank you for taking time to complete this survey, if you have any further questions please contact the FIA Public Affairs and Policy Manager, Stephen Wilson (stephenwilson@fia.org.uk or 020 7420 8572).
