From Stories and Struggles to Strategies: Lateral Violence - Let's Get Rid of It! |
1. From Stories and Struggles to Strategies
In the last two editions of the SC Nurse we examined lateral violence among nurses in SC by defining the behavior and discussing its impact on nurses, their patients and the workplace environment. From the stories you shared, it is obvious the behavior is toxic, can have lasting negative effects on the victim and the workplace environment, and needs to be confronted and eliminated.
It seems the timing is right to “put our heads together” and identify effective strategies for addressing and eliminating lateral violence behavior in the workplace. Therefore, we want to know what is happening on your unit or in your facility that is making a real difference in supporting teamwork, open communication, and decreasing staff turnover as well as any ideas you believe will make a real difference. We invite you once again to tell us your story and/or your ideas.
