Bulkheads and other shoreline armoring are typically installed to protect property, however they have been shown to increase erosion on other properties, reduce vegetation and aquatic habitat, and degrade habitat functions. Other options such as soft solutions involving native vegetation, logs and beach re-establishment have been shown to protect property while providing ecological functions. Do you think additional restrictions on traditional bulkheads and hard armoring should be implemented?
