WHY DOES COUNCIL VALUE PROPERTY OWNERS WHO CONSERVE THEIR HERITAGE PRECINCTS?
Heritage consists of those places and objects that we as a community have inherited from the past and want to hand on to future generations. Our heritage gives us a sense of living history and provides a physical link to the work and way of life of earlier generations. It enriches our lives and helps us to understand who we are today. Conservation Areas are areas in which the historical origins and relationships between the various elements create a sense of place that is worth keeping.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
~ The precinct shows a consistent character that contributes to the overall significance of the conservation area
~ The precinct presents well to the street
~ Buildings in the precinct are well maintained and show no obvious signs of deterioration when viewed from the street
2010 WINNER
Best Conserved Heritage Precinct - Edwin Street, Drummoyne
