Ex: Using Handheld Devices to Capture Momentary Data in the Field

5. Short Description of Presentation:

Ex: Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), and the like, have become popular data collection instruments for researchers with the advancement of handheld technology. Here at LSU, researchers in the Dept. of Kinesiology have used these devices to assess real-time information (emotional states and behaviors) in real-world settings over time. Please come and hear about the lessons learned from using handheld technology, discuss how it could be applicable to similar research projects or even teaching settings at LSU, and actually get a chance to experiment with the devices yourself.

6. Presentation Information

The format of the presentation is a showcase-type format. Each presenter will be given a table and allowed one outlet to plug in a laptop, or a monitor, etc. The event is from 10am-2pm, but you can choose a time slot you would like to be there. Please select from the options below, or specify a time that would work best for you.
7. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop, additional external monitor, and any other equipment you require for your presentation. If you are unable to bring your own, please select any equipment that you need from the list below.

*Note: Each table will be equipped with only ONE electric outlet (no extension cords will be allowed). Please keep this in mind when deciding what equipment to bring.
Things to remember:

1. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. Keep in mind that if you are presenting after someone, you may have to wait a few minutes until they clear the table. If you are presenting before someone (the first time slot), please plan to give yourself enough time to clear your table so the next presenter can set up.
2. You will be able to connect to 'lsusecure' if you need an internet connection.
3. Be sure to take all your personal belongings/ equipment before you leave the event.

You may want to bring:

1. Business cards
2. Any handouts that you would like to pass out to attendees.
3. Headphones, if you plan on sharing any audio/video. It may be too loud in the Union for attendees to hear audio if it is being played from a laptop.
