Which tools should Rorohiko update for CS5?

1. To update or not to update, that is the question.

If you answer these questions before the end of August 2010, and add your e-mail address at the end, we'll send you a personalized coupon code for 75% off our TextExporter tool for Adobe® InDesign® CS5 - you'll get it for US$5 instead of for US$19.

Please, let your friends and co-workers know about this survey - the more people respond, the more likely it is that we'll update one or more of these tools. 500 people willing to pay US$10 might be enough to tip the balance.

Here's the deal: Rorohiko is in the process of updating its tools to CS5.

We still have a bunch of freebies that have not been updated - and the question is: is it worth our while to put effort in updating?

Software development costs money - and we cannot afford to indiscriminately sink effort in updating.

We can manage to fund a few freebies for the creative world, because they give us free advertising.

Hence we have made useful tools like LayerLifter, ImageLibraryLoader, ImageHorn, TextStitch, and TransformMaster available for free to all InDesign CS5 users.

(For an overview of our free and commercial tools for InDesign, check

- you'll need to copy-paste the URL into your browser address bar)

For most intents and purposes, we need to put our effort in software that at the very least funds its own development.

We need your help to find out whether the following tools merit updating to CS5. They're currently free, but if we update them, the CS5 versions won't be free - these tools need to pay their way.

Thanks for your time! We check the survey only every few days - so it might be a wee while before you get your coupon code.

1. Would having LikeFindsLike in InDesign CS5 be useful to you?

LikeFindsLike helps you quickly select a bunch of similar items that are scattered all over a page or a spread. Instead of having to shift-click-click-click to select a number of scattered frames of the same type, you can now select a single frame, and then use the Select All Similar function (preferrably via a keyboard shortcut) to select all the other similar frames in one go.

5. Would having ChatterGoofy in InDesign CS5 be useful (or just plain fun) for you?

ChatterGoofy is a placeholder text creator. It can generate random, Monthy Python-esque, funny, ever different text in mock-English, mock-Latin, mock-Klingon,... It emulates the functionality of the well known Jabberwocky XTension in QuarkXPress®.

It is compatible with Jabberwocky in that it accepts exported Jabberwocky language sets.

7. Would having PlaceAndScale available for InDesign CS5 be useful for you?

If you've ever been placing a number of bitmap images (for example, JPEG images) of various dimensions, and then manually scaling the images to meet a certain preset target resolution, PlaceAndScale is for you.

If the JPEG images originated from different cameras or were taken with different settings, their pixel dimensions can vary widely, and each different type of image needs to be rescaled differently to bring the final resolution to the same standardized value.

PlaceAndScale helps out. You can define a specific target resolution value for each individual InDesign document.

When you place any bitmap image into the document, it will be automatically scaled to make sure the effective resolution of the placed image matches the preset resolution value.
