Dear Tramping Hut user

You are invited to take part in a University of Auckland research project that is seeking to understand the significance of tramping huts to their users. Before you decide whether to take part it is important for you to understand why this research is being conducted and what being a participant in this research will involve. Please take the time to carefully read the following information and feel free to contact us if anything is unclear or if you would like more information. If you have never been tramping in New Zealand then this survey is not for you.

Project description

This research is being conducted because we are interested in the role of tramping huts as symbols and resources within New Zealand’s ‘back country’ landscape and the way they facilitate a particular type of tourism.

Project procedures

Your involvement in the research will be through completing an online questionnaire that should take about 20 minutes. You are consenting to participate through completing this survey.

Confidentiality

Your anonymity is protected as long as you do not leave your name and contact details on the questionnaire. If you do leave your details and we quote from your responses, we will not identify you but rather use a pseudonym.

Data storage, use & disposal

Any electronic data will be stored on the researchers’ computers in encrypted files and all paper files held securely in a locked cabinet.

Data will be used in the drafting of an academic journal in which all names and identities of participants will be protected. We are happy to provide you with a preliminary draft of this paper if you are interested (there is space to leave your contact details at the end of the questionnaire).

All data will be destroyed once the research is complete (paper files shredded securely and electronic data deleted from all devices) or after six years.
