2010 HDC-Energy Efficiency and Historic Preservation

1. The Energy Efficiency and Historic Preservation

Environmental and economic sustainability continues to be a hot topic these days and the Preservation Alliance is actively engaged in promoting energy reduction. Building construction and use account for 59% of the fossil fuel use in the state, so investment in existing buildings and traditional land use patterns is a big part of the energy equation.

As a followup to our Energy Survey from July, 2009, we hope you will complete this survey to help us better understand how your energy efficiency interests and priorities have changed as they relate to administration of your Historic District and your commission's role as a resource for historic property owners.

1. Please provide the information below:

2. How would you characterize your historic district commission's activity? (Show the % time for each)

3. In what percentage of your applications is energy reduction or conservation a central issue?

4. Does your commission have readily-available information for applicants on the following energy related issues?

5. Where does your commission obtain its information to help in decision-making or advocacy? (Please check all that apply.)

6. Does your town or city have an Energy Commission?

7. What other resources would be beneficial to your commission? (Please check all that apply.)

8. Are you familiar with the Preservation Alliance's Green Guidelines?
Available on the NH Preservation Alliance website:
Local: http://nhpreservation.org/pdf/greenguidelineslocal2010.pdf
State: http://nhpreservation.org/pdf/greenguidelinesstate2010.pdf

9. If you answered Yes to the question above, do you find the Preservation Alliance's Green Guidelines to be a helpful tool?

Thank you for completing this survey. Your response will help the Alliance learn more about how Energy Efficiency and Historic Preservation relates to your historic district commission and how we can continue to align our services to better assist you.
