Grocer-E Study Screen

“The purpose of the research is to examine the association between price changes, nutrient profiling, and grocery food purchases. If you choose to participate in this study, you will attend one session at the University at Buffalo South Campus, Farber Hall. We ask that you provide us with two consecutive weeks of your food shopping receipts, which includes groceries and restaurants.

“The session will last approximately two hours. During your visit, you will complete consent forms and study questionnaires. You will be instructed not to eat or drink anything except water (this includes chewing gum) for at least two hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. A food recall ensures your adherence to the study procedures. If you did not adhere to the dietary requirements, your test session may be rescheduled.

“You will then complete an online grocery shopping task using a laboratory based computer program. You will be instructed to shop for the products you usually purchase during your typical weekly household grocery shopping. Once you are finished, a print-out of the grocery items purchased will be printed for us to keep. You should not accumulate a total cost that exceeds how much money you typically spend for your family on weekly groceries. More detailed instructions on using the online grocery store will be provided during your appointment.

“Upon completion of the session a measure of your reading level will be taken. Your height and weight will be measured and you will be debriefed. You will be reimbursed $50.00 for completing the study and will be given a 1-in-10 chance to actually win the groceries you selected during your online shopping session. Enrolled participants who offer referrals for the study will be compensated an additional $5.00 for each referral who participates, up to $10.00 total. Referred participants must present their referral coupon in order for you to receive compensation. The reimbursements will be given in the form of a check."
