1. Carisoprodol (Soma) is an effective drug in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain syndromes.

2. Use of hydrocodone is contraindicated in the management of sub-acute (3-6 weeks) musculoskeletal pain.

3. The majority of patients with work-related musculoskeletal chronic pain are taking opioid medications and never return to work.

4. Prescriptions for rest and activity (including work restrictions) should be provided at every patient encounter.

5. There are reasonably accurate, easy to administer questionnaires that can predict patients at risk for delayed recovery at the first patient visit.

6. Chronic pain syndromes should be considered a "brain disease".
