ACEVO survey on Hodgson report & charity governance

 
On 16 July Lord Hodgson published his review of the Charities Act, making 100 recommendations for change. This survey seeks to get your views on some of those recommendations, plus your experience of the sector's governance arrangements (which featured heavily in the review).

1. Lord Hodgson's review of the Charities Act recommended that charities with an income of £1 million or more should have the power to pay their trustees. Could you envisage your charity taking such a power up over the next 5 years?
2. Lord Hodgson recommended that trusteeship should normally be limited in a charity's constitution to three terms of no more than three years' service each. Do you agree?
3. Lord Hodgson recommended the Government introduce a 'right to know' for all charitable trustees, i.e. a right to access any information, within the confines of data protection law, held by the charity that they reasonably judge necessary to discharge their duties effectively. Would you support such a right?
4. Hodgson recommended that the Charity Commission should charge for the registration of new charities. Would you support this?

10. Lord Hodgson recommended that sanctions for charities filing their accounts/Annual Returns to the Charity Commission late should include the withdrawal of Gift Aid. Would you support this?
