Petition to the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM):

We the undersigned urge the Board of Directors of TAM to vote to endorse the unanimous TAM Working Group’s Greenbrae Corridor Improvement Project (GCIP) bicycle/pedestrian recommendations from its August 26, 2013 meeting, and to provide these recommended projects to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for Regional Measure 2 funding.

The GCIP must prioritize the safety of cyclists and pedestrians and complete key sections of Marin's North-South Greenway. Working Group recommendations to the TAM Board that the Marin County Bicycle Coalition supports include:GCIP WG Reccs

• Construction of underpasses at Tamal Vista Boulevard (near DMV) and under Redwood Highway (on the east side of the Highway 101) at Wornum Drive

• Construction of a multiuse pathway from Redwood Highway at Wornum Drive, behind Trader Joe’s/Cost Plus (adjacent to the SMART train tracks), to the area just south of Corte Madera Creek

• Constructing a new separated bicycle/pedestrian bridge crossing Corte Madera Creek

Furthermore, MCBC recommends retaining or replacing the pedestrian overcrossing at Lucky Drive (to maximize local connectivity and reduce car trips in the corridor).

TAM Working Group recommendations are consistent with the San Francisco Bay Area Bridges California Streets and Highway Code 30914, Section C(11) and unanimous resolutions from the City of Larkspur, Town of Corte Madera, Larkspur-Corte Madera School District, and Tamalpais Union High School District.

To fulfill the needs of current and future generations in Marin County, the Greenbrae Corridor Improvement Project must:

1) Increase safety for users of all ages and abilities and must encourage nonmotorized travel by building pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure that is separated-from-cars

2) Meet the needs of school children traveling by bike and on foot, many of whom need to cross the freeway to attend Hall Middle School, Redwood High School and the new Cove School in East Corte Madera

3) Encourage nonmotorized transportation between Larkspur/Corte Madera and the Larkspur SMART station, the Larkspur Ferry, the Cal Park Tunnel and destinations to the north

4) Provide transportation infrastructure that promotes long-term needs for climate protection

5) Improve facilities for local foot and bike traffic and minimize disruption of neighborhood and community nonmotorized travel patterns.

The Working Group recommendations meet all five of these needs, and its recommendations support the Regional Measure 2 legislative goals of reducing congestion and making improvements to travel in toll bridge corridors. We urge the TAM Board to support MCBC's recommendations and to honor the Working Group process by supporting the bicycle and pedestrian improvements listed above that were recommended by the Working Group on August 26, 2013.
