However, at any given time, it seems that the number of active members – participants on CoS message boards and the like – number in the hundreds rather than in the thousands. My speculative classification of people who joined the Church is:
1. People who are active in the organization
2. People who continue to self-identify as Church of Satan members, but who are otherwise inactive
3. People who continue to self-identify as Satanists, but who are no longer interested in CoS
4. People who have completely rejected the label ‘Satanist’
