. ALL students applying to the UTC Social Work BSW Program must complete a criminal background check process PRIOR to the application deadline.
The link for the UTC website with details on how to complete this process is located on the UTCSW application website; the cost is $48 per person (website indicates how payment is made).
PLEASE CAREFULLY READ Terms of Disclosure and Non-disclosure:
New State of TN regulations effective January 1, 2011 implemented multilevel licensure across TN - BSW social workers can now be licensed. This process requires completion of a criminal background check. The UTC Social Work Program adheres to these state requirements for BSW-level practice by implementing a criminal background check process for all students applying to the program.
A failure to disclose a record of conviction may preclude graduating with a degree in social work. This is due to individual agency screening procedures such as a criminal background check and drug screening. Based on the results of a criminal background check, agencies have the right to refuse student field education placements. This refusal may prohibit completion of BSW degree requirements: all 4000 level SOCW courses. Disclosure does not automatically exclude you from successfully graduating with a degree in social work. Your disclosure makes it possible for the social work program faculty to assess the best ways to work with you.
