The Ups and Downs of Raising Babies: The Father’s Perspective:
You are invited to complete this questionnaire as part of a national study conducted by Dr. Carol George at Mills College and Amelia Newton, M.A. We know fathers are very important in children’s’ lives and the purpose of this study is to expand our understanding of being the father of a young child. You are eligible to participate in this study if you are older than age 18 years and you are involved as the father of a child 1 to 36 months of age. Participation does not require that you be married to or living with your child’s mother. This study will not report on specific individuals, but rather with your participation, the study will help expand our understanding of the range of possible experiences of fathers with young children.
Participation entails completing a survey about your experiences as a father, your relationship with your child’s mother (if applicable) and your child’s development. The survey takes about 30 minutes to complete. You may complete the survey using our online link, by phone ‘interview,’ or by filling out the survey and returning it to us by mail. Your participation is voluntary, confidential, and anonymous. All participants will be entered in a raffle for a $20 Amazon gift card that will be mailed to you at end of the study. A winner will be selected from each group of 25 participants.
You may choose whether or not you want to participate in this study and you may withdraw your consent and discontinue participation at any time. Whatever decision you make, there will be no penalty to you. Participation is anonymous. Your completion and submission of the survey indicates your consent to participate in the study. Participants who would like to see a summary of the results of this study have the option of providing us with an email or mailing address at the end of the survey. We will forward the general results to you once the study is complete.
