Employer and Sector Research (NCFE)
1. European Fashion Designer - Research
As a result of the increasing globalisation of the fashion retail business, the role of a Fashion Designer has been transformed with greater emphasis on communication, technology, business and technical skills, as well as the need for greater mobility throughout Europe.
For this reason, the European Union through Leonardo Da Vinci's, Lifelong Learning Programme has approved a 2 year project for the development of a profile for a European Fashion Designer which would aim to create a European Fashion Business Qualification, recognised throughout Europe as part of the European Qualification Framework.
The objective of this research is to understand:
Employers and sector sepcialists expectations in the recruitment and development of fashion designers
The skills which take priority in the workplace for a designer in different European fashion businesses
The competencies and skills required to allow designers to move freely through Europe
The findings from this research will be mapped against existing qualifications in Universities and Fashion Colleges across Europe to establish how many of these competencies are currently being taught and where necessary develop new modules and units of learning to meet employers needs.
