Dear Monroe Residents,

The Monroe Planning Board is in the process of developing a new updated Master Plan for the town. The purpose of the Master Plan is to outline the community’s desires for what the town should look like in the future, where development should take place and how it should be arranged, and what the priorities should be for resource protection. The Master Plan is implemented with the zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations, the town budget, and other municipal activities. We need to know your opinions about several topics to ensure the Master Plan accurately reflects the will of the community. Please take a few minutes to submit your answers to each of the following questions. Surveys can be dropped off at the Selectmen’s office during regular business hours, mailed to the town office to Master Plan Survey, Town of Monroe, P.O. Box 63, Monroe, NH 03771-0063, or completed online at monroetown.com. Responses must be received by August 15, 2010 to be considered. Each member of the household is encouraged to participate.

1. In Monroe, are you a: (choose one of the following)

2. Monroe currently uses groundwater for public supply wells in and around the village area. The groundwater for these wells, as well as aquifers in other parts of town that may someday be needed for future wells, receives only the minimum level of protection required by the state. Should the town: (choose one of the following)

3. Monroe has very few wetlands. These are important habitat areas to a variety of plant and animal species, Should the town: (choose one of the following)

4. Much of the town is comprised of slopes of 15%, which pose challenges to develop without causing erosion and sedimentation of brooks, and slopes over 25% which planners recommend not be built upon at all for the same reasons. Should the town: (choose one of the following)

5. Several areas of Monroe are considered to be prime agricultural soils, will-drained fertile soils especially good for growing crops. Should the town: (choose one of the following)

6. Some residents would like to see the town stay the same as it is now with as little growth as possible. Others feel more growth would benefit the town. The town should: (choose as many as apply)
