TAYLOR CONGER: Since coming to Columbia in 2008 as a graduate student, I have followed CUPID closely, through the newsletter, attending events and talks, and by discussing current initiatives with the CUPID community. As an organization, CUPID is crucial to encouraging a multidisciplinary dialogue around the key issues facing development and the humanitarian field today. No other student led initiative brings together a more diverse group of students, professors, and alumni to be agents of social change. International development has always been a passion for me and my studies and career embody that. Before joining CUSSW and the Mailman School of Public Health, I worked for the International Rescue Committee in their San Jose, CA field office resettling refugees and asylees, teaching ESL, and managing our volunteer program. As program manager for the Public Management Program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, I planned dozens of high level events for socially innovative speakers (Al Gore, Natalie Portman – FINCA ambassador of hope, Yvon Chouniard – founder and CEO of Patagonia, among others), managed marketing efforts, planned MBA service learning trips, and was the only staff member to lead the Southeast Asia Service Learning trips. These trips brought 18 MBAs and one professor together to travel through Thailand and Cambodia to meet with nongovernmental organizations, nonprofits, social enterprises, and social entrepreneurs to learn how their business acumen could be used to combat human sexual trafficking, HIV/AIDS, and foster development. I am particularly interested in the VP of Programs because it will challenge me to think broadly about international issues, while working alongside of a dynamic team. I am eager to take on a leadership position so that I might bring my organizational skills, team-oriented attitude, and unique experiences to the group.

After applying and being elected for the VP of Finances position in the Fall of 2009, I seek to continue executing CUPID's objectives in the same position on the 2010-2011 Executive Board. Since the Fall, I add to my skills and qualifications the experience of knowing all the procedures and responsibilities this position entails, and I am ready to deliver. With the current two presidents leaving this year, and the likelihood of my Co-VP of Finances also leaving for other commitments next year, CUPID needs board members who are well-prepared to cover the organizational know-how and offer continuity in the successes the group has had during the 2009-2010 term. I am happy to fill this position. Vote for Annie!
