1. Gleaning Denver
Do you have Cherry Tree or Grape Vines you would like to have picked with the fruit processed and donated to a food bank or food kitchen? History Colorado and Slow Food Denver have joined forces to undertake a fruit gleaning project in the Denver Metro Area. "Gleaning" is the act of collecting leftover crops after they have been commercially harvested or on fields where it is not economically feasible to commercially harvest.
Our project is taking gleaning to a different level in that we will pick fruit in neighborhoods. The fruit will be picked in the morning and processed later that day. The processing will take place during classes showing individuals how to safely process fruit preservation. The processed food will be donated to local food banks while a portion will be available to the participants.
