Student Affairs Professionals' Perceptions of Spirituality in Higher Education

1. Default Section

Thank you for taking my survey! (Note: This is NOT a formal research survey.) My goal here is to hear from folks working in Student Affairs about spirituality. Please take whatever time is convenient for you to offer your personal thoughts on the questions below. I've tried to keep the survey short, but I of course appreciate any detail you're willing to share!

I will be using the feedback I collect to develop some related posts on my blog, http://zackfordblogs.com. I think "spirituality" is a topic that folks in our field are eager to pursue and I think it will be interesting to see just how folks perceive it.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at zackfordblogs@gmail.com.

1. My goal is to protect your privacy and anonymity, but it would be helpful to know just a little bit about where you're coming from. Please share as much or as little detail as you feel comfortable.

2. Please take some time and tell me a little about your own personal worldview. When people ask you your religion, how do you answer? What are some of the words you would use to describe this dimension of your identity? What role does spirituality play, if any, in how you live your life?

3. What is "spirituality"? What kinds of things does the word make you think of? What does it mean for you in your own life?

4. What is "spiritual development"? What does it mean to promote students' spiritual development? What kind of skill or identity development should it entail? How would you evaluate a student's spiritual development?

5. To what extent should we promote student spirituality in higher education? If you think we should, what should such interventions look like? If you think we should not, please take some time to discuss why.

6. Have you interacted with spirituality at all in your professional work? Do you feel that you interact with spirituality an appropriate amount? What would be your ideal for interacting with spirituality and spiritual development in your current work?

7. Please feel free to share any other thoughts or concerns you have about spirituality in higher education.

Thank you so much for your time and responses! Check out my blog at http://zackfordblogs to see results of this survey and more investigations into these topics.
