In June 2012, TESOL International Association revised its Position Statement on Academic and Degree-Granting Credit for ESOL Courses in Postsecondary Education. The revised position statement re-affirms the position long held by the association supporting academic or degree-granting credit for English as a second language (ESL), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), or English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses.

To measure current practice, the association is conducting a survey to collect information from institutions of higher education in the United States and Canada regarding policy on credit for English language instruction. Specifically, the purpose of this survey is to collect information from institutions on whether they offer academic or degree-granting credit for their ESL/ESOL/EAP programs.

The following survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Prior to starting to the survey, it is recommended you collect basic information about your program, including:

-Approximate ESL/ESOL enrollment
-Number and type of ESL/ESOL/EAP programs
-Information on credit policies at your institution

The deadline for collecting responses has been extended to 19 April 2013.
