The Estonian American National Council (EANC) has prepared this questionnaire for circulation to all Estonian-Americans legally residing in the United States, including individuals as well as leaders in existing community organizations (such as Estonian societies, church congregations, music groups, etc.). We are particularly interested in receiving feedback from individuals living in areas of the country where there is no organized Estonian-American activity, from second and third generation Estonian-Americans who are not active in Estonian-American life and from recent arrivals who may not have made contact with existing Estonian-American organizations.

EANC is at a critical point in its history. It is the central, nationally-elected, organization that represents Estonian Americans in Washington and elsewhere, supports Estonian American activities and cultural events, and has representatives in major Estonian American centers. Interest in its activities has waned as the post-World War II generation of immigrants is passing and later generations possess a lesser degree of interest. Also, the re-establishment of independence in Estonia, which was a primary goal of the EANC’s work, may have led to a perception that a strong Estonian American presence in Congress and the Administration is no longer required. The purpose of the questionnaire is to assess the continuing level of interest among Estonian-Americans in the work of EANC, to find its priorities, and to find an improved structure for future activities.

Finally, we ask that you encourage everyone in your circle of acquaintance to participate so that the questionnaire becomes a "snowball" in the Estonian community.
