2010 Pinewood Derby Feedback Survey

2010 Pinewood Derby Feedback Survey

This is a "feedback survey" with respect to the South Fulton District Pinewood Derby held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Woodward Middle School Cafeteria/Gym. The purpose of this Survey is to take all ideas and feedback from this event in order to create a better event next year: to note what worked that we want to repeat, and what could be improved upon (both of which require volunteer engagement, by the way).

1. Did you attend all or any part of the South Fulton District Pinewood Derby on Saturday, February 6?

2. Was this your first Pinewood Derby?

3. How did our Volunteers do on these aspects of the Pinewood Derby?

4. If you've attended other Pinewood Derbies, how did this one compare to past Derbies?

5. In what role below did you volunteer in advance to help so that this Derby could come off well for the Scouts? (Check all that apply)

6. If we have a 2011 District Pinewood Derby, would you be willing to help volunteer for it? We ask because an event like this just can't happen without people pitching in. This is not an official commitment, we're just exploring interest for next year since some volunteers will move on.

7. In 2007 and 2008, the Derby was held in the Padgett Gym at Woodward, a larger facility with bleachers, but that gym was torn down in 2009 in a major renovation, and the replacement gym facilities were only recently completed, which is why the Derby has been in the Middle School Cafeteria/Gym in 2009 and 2010. It is possible that future Derbies might return to a bleacher-sized gym, though that requires more Advance (and day of) Volunteering because of the larger Facility and the need to coordinate with other uses of the Gym Facility.

So, for a 2011 (if the District wants to do that and has enough Volunteers), should we:

8. The District Derby has recently been an "all Scouts welcome" event, and a "structured" race with the focus on fastest race cars. The advantages of this are picking winners in Dens, Packs and the District on the basis of which car is fastest. Disadvantages include Scouts get less "racing time" where they are "hands on" (because it would slow the racing day as the hands might drop the cars, etc.).

An alternate way to do a District Derby is to have no competition for "Fastest Car", but just allow Scouts to line up and race their cars until everyone has had enough fun doing that (they can also "introduce" their cars and be seen on the "Big Screen" doing that, since we won't need it for "race results"). This can work best if there are multiple tracks set up (so that lines are not as long).

So, for a 2011 Derby, should we:
