Course Description:

Insider’s Guide to the Himalayas Photo Journalism Teen Art Lab

Take a month-long trip to the Himalayas without leaving the city! Inspired by the Candid photography exhibition, create an Insider’s Guide to the Himalayas in NYC using photojournalism! Experience then report on Himalayan hotspots like off the beaten track temples, contemporary art events, cuisine, theater and museums in this cross city reporting adventure in which participants document connections between the Rubin Museum of Art and NYC at large.

• Explore the art and culture of Tibet, India, Nepal, China, and beyond
• Learn digital photography and journalism skills using professional equipment
• Get career guidance from top level arts professionals
• Take related trips and expand your repertoire of must see cultural treasures in NYC


WHEN DOES THIS ART LAB TAKE PLACE?

Teen Art Labs meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. July 2, 2012 - July 30, 2012 (no meeting July 4)

There are a total of 12 required sessions. STUDENTS MUST COMMIT TO ATTENDING ALL MEETINGS.

WHO CAN JOIN?

All NYC area high school students may apply.

WHERE WILL WE MEET?

Art Labs meet at the Rubin Museum of Art, located at 150 West 17th Street, between 6th and 7th avenues.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Interested teens fill out this online application and will be contacted by the Rubin Museum for an interview.

DOES IT COST ANY MONEY?

Art Labs for Teens is a FREE program for all participants with all materials provided.
