UK policy makers are seeking to reduce re-offending. High levels of re-offending carry a high social and financial cost - the Social Exclusion Unit (2002) has estimated that the cost of recorded crime committed by ex-prisoners is £11bn per year.
The Government has recognised the need to build effective alliances with the third sector. National efforts to reduce re-offending are focused on seven key pathways: accommodation; education, training and employment; mental and physical health; drugs and alcohol; finance, benefit and debt; children and families of offenders; offender attitudes, thinking and behaviour.
The Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) at Sheffield Hallam University has been commissioned by NAVCA to investigate the ways in which local support and development organisations help front-line organisations to help reduce re-offending by ex-prisoners. This questionnaire has been sent to all NAVCA member organisations and will help us to build up a picture of current activity. Please attempt to answer all of the questions. Most just require a tick against the relevant box.
Please help us by taking a few minutes to complete this survey. If you have any questions about this issue or want more information, please contact Angela Barnes tel 0114 289 3978 or email angela.barnes@navca.org.uk.
Everyone that completes the survey will receive a memory stick loaded to the brim with useful resources and guidance around working with offenders.
Closing date for completion of this survey is 26 March.
