Sawyers Hall College working with Essex University, Prospects College, Havering College of FE&HE, the Financial Skills Partnership and large Financial and Construction employers in the area are proposing to open a University Technical College on the vacated Sawyers Hall site in September 2012. These plans are at an advanced stage and we would welcome opinions from parents and residents of Brentwood on the proposed development. 1. Do you think that there should be a wider choice of courses available to secondary school students in Brentwood?

2. Would you like to see a 14-19 vocational University Technical College established on the vacated Sawyers Hall College site in 2012?

3. The University Technical College will offer specialist core courses in Financial Services, Business, Construction and the Built Environment as well as standard GCSE and A level. Does that offer appeal to you?

4. The University Technical College will also offer specialist courses in Hair and Beauty, Hospitality and Catering, Sport and Leisure and ICT. Does this offer appeal to you?

5. The specialist courses will be taught in high specification, simulated work environments with academic subjects taught in dedicated classrooms. Do you agree with this approach to learning?

6. The specialist courses will be taught by university staff, professionals and employers in the relevant field, lecturers and teachers. Do you agree with this approach to teaching key skills and knowledge?

7. All courses will include work placements in the relevant working environment as part of the assessment and accreditation. Do you agree with this method of learning?

The aim of the University Technical College is to create high quality vocational learning that will allow any child to progress to GCSE level, apprenticships, higher level qualifications, specialist occupations and to university or to alternatives to university as appropriate.
