Below I use two acronyms: IaaS and SaaS. IaaS stands for Infrastructure as a Service. In short, IaaS means that you are moving your current servers to a hosting provider (and getting out of the business of managing hardware). So for example, your GIFTS server(s) is moved off-site and hosted by another company. They are typically responsible for actual physical hardware, environmentals (a/c, power, etc.), backups, etc. SaaS stands for Software as a Service where you log into someone else’s system for a core business app. Examples of SaaS is Gmail and Salesforce.com.
