South Fulton District Cub Leader Training Signup Survey

If you are here to sign up for the class -- STOP, and call Bert Bender at 404.881.7385 (we're not checking this site further).

This is a "sign up survey" for South Fulton District Cub Leader Training on Saturday, March 20, 2010 (9:30 to 2:00 or 2:30) at the Woodward Academy Primary School, 2001 Walker Avenue (about a mile east of "Main Street", one block north of Rugby Avenue, away from the "central campus"). THIS IS NOT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL WHERE THE DERBY WAS HELD!

The sessions noted below are a combination of "Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific Training", instead of segregated sessions (for reasons noted below), and are geared to give Den Leaders and Cubmasters and Assistants and Committee Members the knowledge and skills they need to have a fun and meaningful meetings for their Scouts.

We require "advance signup" because we will provide materials for attendees, and we cannot magically produce extra copies for people who "drop in", and the session doesn't work very well if there are just a few people (if we cancel for that, we'll direct you to alternate training sessions). And if we cancel for lack of signups or other emergency, we will ONLY notify those who signed up! The
Sign Up Deadline is the WEDNESDAY before the session.

More details about the class are in the survey below . . .

Question Title

1. First . . .

Question Title

2. My Cub Scout leadership role is (select all that apply -- for new leaders wondering about the animal names, Tigers are generally 1st Grade, Wolves 2nd Grade, Bears 3rd Grade, and Webelos are 4th and 5th Grade):

Question Title

3. Have you participated in a Scout Leader training course before?

Question Title

4. Note: absent a huge early signup and clear demand, this "Cub Scout Leader Specific Training" most likely will NOT divide into Tiger Den Leader, Wolf/Bear DL, Webelos DL, and Cubmaster training classes. The reasons are: (1) in our "neck of the woods" there are a lot of Packs that are not much bigger than a Den, and so many Pack Meetings/Den Meetings actually include Cub Scouts of multiple ranks (and with limited leadership resources, it is often better to include 2 tigers with an energized and well led group of 8 total scouts, than to have them alone in a less engergized Den); (2) many Den Leaders will be better able to "see the progression" of the ranks by seeing how each Rank Level works; (3) we recognize that some Den Leaders will hopefully continue on to a new Rank Level next year but may not do another 3 or 4 hour training (so we want to equip them with the information to anticipate how to handle "the next level"), and (4) while there are differences in the roles, there is much more in common when it comes to how to lead Scouts, work with Parents, and run a meeting (and it is useful to know the other roles, if only to help others succeed in those roles).

As a result, the class will run a little longer than a "one level only" class to cover the differences and ways to "incorporate all" in one meeting.

Does that present a concern for you?

Question Title

5. To help us plan, tell us some more information about your Pack, its Scouts, and its Leadership.

First . . . how big is your Pack (or how big do you think it will be this year)?

Question Title

6. Next . . . some Packs have Scouts at all levels, others are starting up with just younger ones.

Does your Pack have Scouts at each level (Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos I and II)?

Question Title

7. Last . . . you might be the "First Leader" for a new (or renewed) Pack, or the first to "get serious" and take training, while other Packs might have lots of trained leader resources to "help you out". We might "reach out" to some of them to help you (and us) be sure that we cover important things for you to know about your Pack.

Does your Pack have other Trained or Experienced Leaders?

Question Title

8. Also: the Trainers reserve the right to cancel the session on 24 hours notice if fewer than 7 attendees are firmly committed to attend.

The reason for this is that the lessons cannot be effectively learned without having at least a "den size" in the Class -- and attendees will have a more valuable experience in a larger group. You can check in with cubleadertraining@southfultonscouting.com for updates on signups as the date approaches.

Does this create a problem for you?

Question Title

9. Are there others you know of (in your unit or otherwise) who would be interested in attending a South Fulton Cub Scout Leader Training class that we should contact?

Question Title

10. Thank you for your responses. Please let us know if you have any other questions or comments about our Training -- like whether you have specific topics, questions or issues you would like to see covered in this class? -- put them below, or email cubleadertraining@southfultonscouting.com with your comments.
