Below are tentative courses, dates and locations for the first half of 2011, after reading the course description please answer accordingly. Yes: If you or staff would attend; Maybe, If the training could possibly benefit your agency and No, If the training would not be beneficial to your agency.

1. HCV Housing Quality Standard Training – March 2011- San Antonio

Course Description: Maintain strong ties with owners and the community by ensuring inspectors thoroughly understand the required elements of HQS. Improve the level of your HCV and PBV/Section 8 Housing Inspections and meet SEMAP requirements Through expert instruction, you will learn to conduct a thorough inspection to illustrate (or rediscover) details that must be observed, and identify actions to be taken.

Who should attend: HQS Staff, Section 8 Housing Inspectors, Preventative Maintenance Inspectors, and new and seasoned inspectors.

2. HCV & PH Rent Calculation - February 2011- El Paso

Course Description: Rent calculation for both the public housing and housing choice voucher programs. The seminar has been carefully structured for combination areas to be trained together. Final rule changes regarding EIV mandatory implementation are incorporated. Includes: Annual Income, Earned Income Disallowance (EID), Assets, Adjusted Income, Verification, and Rent Calculation

Who should attend: Occupancy and reexam staff and supervisors

3. Uniform Physical Condition Standards - January 2011 – Abilene

Course Description: Are you prepared to achieve the highest possible score on your REAC Inspection? This training will teach you how to prepare in advance for your REAC Inspection and achieve the maximum score. This training is packed with 2 days of “Need to Know” UPCS Inspection Protocol information designed specifically to help you comply with REAC, IRS, USDA & HUD Federal Regulations as well as raise your agencies overall REAC Scores! Each attendee will receive a complete copy of the REAC protocols, explaining every possible defect.

Who should attend: Course designed for Executive Directors, Project Managers, Maintenance Management, Maintenance Staff & Housing Inspectors.

4. Public Housing Specialist – March 2011 – Austin

Course Description: All in one - Eligibility, Rent Calculation, and Occupancy! Instead of three separate certification exams, one exam at the end of the seminar allows participants to get high quality, up-to-date training on all three topics

Who should attend: All public housing staff and supervisors.

5. Housing Choice Voucher Specialist – May 2011 - Arlington

Course Description: All in one - Eligibility, Rent Calculation, and Occupancy! Instead of three separate certification exams, one exam at the end of the seminar allows participants to get high quality, up-to-date training on all three topics

Who should attend: Occupancy specialists, reexamination specialists, eligibility specialists, waiting list specialists, HCV supervisors, and HCV managers.

6. Capital Funding – March 2011 – Arlington

Course Description: Learn how to incorporate capital planning into the PHA Plan process. Discover how to maximize your capital fund, use CFP funds for new construction, and leverage these funds with other sources. Practical, interactive case studies help you learn new concepts.

Who should attend: Senior policy makers and administrators, including executive directors and finance and other directors. This is especially true in light of the CFPs linkage to PHA Plan mission statements, strategic goals and objectives, and the program's new emphasis on mixed-finance leveraging of funds in the context of new housing development and/or major redesign strategies.

7. Procurement & Contract Management – May 2011 – Lubbock

Course Description: You will learn how to procure quality goods and services for the right cost, the highest quality, for timely delivery, and in compliance with applicable laws and policies. The training covers estimating costs of goods and services, and developing criteria for analysis of proposals. You will also learn how to comply with the newest federal procurement requirements and regulations; how to use the proper procurement method and contract type; how to analyze costs to ensure your agency gets the highest value for its contract dollar and how to assess and control the procurement performance operation and professional ethics of procurement.

Who should attend: A must for Purchasing and Finance staff, Management staff and Property Managers!

8. Family Self Sufficiency – April 2011 – San Antonio

Course Description: A critical element to the future of the Housing Choice Program. Gain or refresh your knowledge of the elements needed to create a successful FSS program through participating in a FSS laboratory. Here you will discover how to classify the dynamics of case management, including dissecting regulations to insure proper reporting, measuring the logic model and collecting data, and creating a linkage from Section 8 to Homeownership. Learn to generate a positive image through creative marketing and media usage. Find out how to create a support system, forming a non-profit organization, to assist with future FSS funding.

Who should attend: Executive Directors, Senior/Key Management staff, Supervisors, and FSS Coordinators
