University of North Georgia: For rolling out a brand new main site and news site on January 8th after beginning development in August of 2012. UNG’s new site is the result of a rebranding after two georgia universities merged in 2012. http://ung.edu/ and http://ung.edu/news/ Brandeis International Business School: For designing and promoting an all new website with the aid of Cascade Server within one calendar year. http://www.brandeis.edu/global/ Jennifer Goodwin at Union College: For redesigning the library's digital collections website using "Hype", a Mac app that generates a flash-like animation in HTML5. Jennifer was hired in October 2012 by Union College's Schaffer Library and has quickly picked up Cascade Server and integrated it into her web design workflow. James Madison University: For its Performing Arts website, which uses elements of the Hannon Hill calendar module and also leverages Cascade Server to help the user maintain a 100+ event arts performance site with minimal technical support. This site was brought up in 2 months from initial requirements to go-live and leverages many embedded external media types. It utilizes an AJAX pricing component that allows users to adjust pricing tiers with a single xml file modification and publish. http://www.jmu.edu/forbescenter Question Title * 2. CUSTOMER MVP: Which Cascade Server customer has been the most helpful to other customers on the listserv, support site, social media, etc? David Shipley: David provides feedback via social media and the general uwebd listserv. He has provided help to our Canadian clients via one-on-one phone sessions, Canada group webinar, and as one of the co-heads of the Canada User Group. Jason Aller: The 2012 Customer MVP Incumbent, Jason is one of the most active Cascade Server clients on the email listserv, providing his expertise to the rest of the community. He is also a repeat speaker at the user conference, bringing unique topics to the conference for the benefit of the other attendees. Michael Wagner (http://law.hofstra.edu): He has been an active participant in the New York User Group. He regularly attends our Google Hangouts where he frequently offers answers to others’ questions. Sara Haradhvala of Harlen Consulting: She is an advocate, teacher and developer using the Cascade Server. She has helped organizations move toward accessibility compliance using Cascade Server and implement new social media tools like the Twitter widget, YouTube videos and more. Sara has attended the Hannon Hill Conference several times as well as all of the webinars and consistently brings new ideas to her clients. Eric Epps: Eric contributed the more discussions started by other clients on the Cascade Server help forum than any other user in the last year. He has a passion for figuring stuff out and is happy to share his solutions with others. Question Title * 3. HEAD OF THE CLASS: Which new Cascade Server client has been the quickest in getting up to speed in learning and using Cascade Server? In the past year, Wing Ming Chan (Upstate.edu) has become a power Cascade developer. He's proficient with workflows and web services, invented a system similar to Hannon Hill’s bricks, and best of all, he's always willing to answer XSLT and Velocity questions during the New York Google Hangouts. University of North Georgia: Both of their new sites were rolled out on January 8th after beginning development in August of 2012. The team had no knowledge of Velocity when they got started, but now all of their pages use data definitions and velocity code to render the many different blocks in each template. Since January, they have rolled out several other consolidated department sites as the content was ready, and plan to have widespread users in the system by the end of August 2013. University of San Diego - They migrated over from Contribute late 2012, and sent people to #CSUC12 last year, even though they weren’t even clients yet. In order to aid their users in getting up to speed over the last year, they provide monthly end user training and have created tons of content to help ease the transition from Contribute for end users. http://www.sandiego.edu/redesign/content/faq.php AGF - Their team was able to perform a majority of their Cascade Server implementation based on training help they received from Services. They have been able to migrate their site from previous CMS and launch new dynamic financial services website. www.agf.com Brandeis International Business School: It was incredibly impressive to see how Brandeis IBS made a transition toward meeting accessibility guidelines, and to see the new social media integration which has included Twitter widgets and Flickr slideshows. Question Title * 4. MOST CREATIVE USE OF CASCADE SERVER: What is the most innovative thing that a client has implemented this year using Cascade Server? AGF: Runping Huang for use of Publish trigger to publish content to a database allowing for corresponding application development to serve up content related to content being viewed by website visitors based on keywords and tagging. Runping implemented Cascade Server to allow for entry of content in one location and reuse in multiple ways through out the website. AGF also makes use of inclusions to allow for edit and publish of content to occur in one location and filter to multiple locations and to allow for multi-lingual functionality. SUNY Upstate Medical University: Wing Ming Chan utilized Sites along with a structured data block Setup to allow for reuse of page type layouts while allowing for customization of specific regions per site. This allows SUNY Upstate Medical Center to make the most of minimal Configuration Sets, easier site creation, and bundling of site options abilities. Washburn University: It’s Virtual Tour was the first of its kind in Cascade Server. It uses HTML5 instead of Flash, and it makes full use of Responsive Design, so it's accessible on iOS devices. It includes a sortable, categorized map, an engaging multimedia gallery full of photos, panoramic 360 degree photos, and videos, and robust details pages. Perhaps best of all, content entry in Cascade Server for Washburn's Virtual Tour is easier than saving money with GEICO. University of North Georgia: For the PHP/AD campus directory that they built this year. After the initial launch in January, they created data definitions for faculty/staff bios, and through the use of index blocks and velocity code, they have brought that additional information into the directory, including prefix/suffix and links to individual bio pages. They also leveraged this same set of interconnection to build department faculty staff listings in several different formats. AD provides the official name, department, title, phone number, email address, and location, while any other additional information is entered into a cascade data definition and matched with their AD account data to build a full bio page, listing, and directory. http://ung.edu/directory and http://ung.edu/computer-science/faculty-staff-bio Cal Poly Pomona: Integration of Cascade Server to utilize includes for allowing of reuse and publishing of content from one source. Cal Poly Pomona's implementation is truly unique because they did not sacrifice the user-editing experience to utilize server-side includes as a way of editing and publishing content from one location. Cal Poly Pomona implemented two outputs per page to allow for an end-user friendly editing experience while having an alternate output that is published to web servers that utilizes server-side includes. Cal Poly Pomona also implemented a Calendar that is fed from an external source with category sorting and a responsive design. http://www.csupomona.edu/ Brandeis International Business School: For the implementation of a dynamic map using Cascade server, which allows visitors to hover over different location on the map and see students from all over the world: http://brandeis.edu/global/student-life/leadership-fellows/map.html Mediagrif: Mediagrif uses Cascade Server for customized portal solutions across a variety of industry segments. These portal solutions utilize Cascade in creative ways to store product data and dynamically populate web pages with data based on visitor activity and selections.http://goo.gl/TnwxN Indiana University’s new Class Registration and Financial Aid website: Cascade Server allowed IU Communications to create a dynamic calendaring system on the SCU homepage that displays relevant registration and financial aid deadlines to students based on the month of the year. The dynamic calendar content is managed through native Cascade Server assets and published to an external MySQL database. The homepage itself serves as a portal page that leads users to two different web environments. BEST NEW SITE: Which customer rolled out the best new site since #CSUC12? Clemson: Their new site was recently rolled out. It’s 100% responsive and very intuitive to navigate. The design is fresh and innovative, but it’s clear that it was the content that was driving the design, which makes it even better. http://www.clemson.edu Texas A&M-Texarkana: Their new website was completely redesigned and is all-responsive and mobile-friendly. http://tamut.edu Brandeis International Business School: The new site is clean, dynamic and engaging. It is a huge improvement over the old site and makes incredible use of responsive web design. The new site was launched in June 2013 and includes workflow implementation for a team of 20+ content producers and implementation of social media, including Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. www.brandeis.edu/global Indiana University’s new Class Registration and Financial Aid website: This website is a cooperation between IU’s Office of the Registrar the Financial Aid Office. Formerly, both offices had their own websites. Their goal with this project was to create a single site that offered IU students one place to find vital information relating to class registration and financial aid processes and policies. A key objective for both offices was to make important deadline information available to students as soon as they arrive to the site. Cascade Server allowed IU Communications to create a dynamic calendaring system on the SCU homepage that displays relevant registration and financial aid deadlines to students based on the month of the year. The dynamic calendar content is managed through native Cascade Server assets and published to an external MySQL database. The homepage itself serves as a portal page that leads users to two different web environments. Topic-specific information is housed in accordions and tabs in both environments. The SCU site was also built to be responsive. Knowing that IU students access information through multiple mobile devices, it was vital to create a site that worked for the student--rather than making the student work for the site. http://studentcentral.indiana.edu University of North Georgia: The new site has a lot of great features, such as an AD/Data Defintion driven directory (ung.edu/directory), a fully automated news site (ung.edu/news), easy to use slideshow blocks that users can configure and embed in any page (ung.edu/military-college-admissions), as well as several other reusable and automated blocks for users, such as RSS feed blocks, directory listing blocks, news listing blocks (for their department based on tags in the news site), and much more. www.ung.edu Question Title * 6.
