Introduction/Purpose

The California Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities is focusing our efforts this year on the health care industry. According to the Center for Health Workforce Studies, between 2010 and 2020 the health care industry in the U.S. is projected to add over 4.2 million jobs. California faces the challenge of supplying the number of qualified, skilled health care workers needed to meet the growing employer demand.

As the statewide body charged with advising the California Secretaries of Health and Human Services and Labor and Workforce Development on all issues related to the employment of people with disabilities, one of the Committee’s objectives this year is to learn from services providers in the health care industry about the barriers to, and best practices in, employing workers with disabilities. Information gathered from this survey will assist the Committee in the development and prioritization of policy recommendations.

This survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. We would like you to respond to this survey by Monday, December 2 but will accept responses until April 30, 2014. If you have any questions or additional feedback, please contact: CCEPD@dor.ca.gov.

*Note for Those Using Screen Reading Software*

In order to most easily navigate through this survey, we recommend you use the following techniques:

1. When you reach the end of this note, go to the “next” button and hit enter. This will take you to the first portion of the survey.

2. When you reach the first page or each successive page, you should use control home to move to the top of the page in case you are not already there.

3. At the top of the page, use the “say all” command for your screen reader or use the down arrow key to read through any introductory text.

4. When you reach the first question, stop and hit tab to read the question and the first possible answer.

5. If the answer indicates that a radio button is being displayed, you can use the spacebar to select the first answer or the down arrow key to hear more choices. Once you make a selection using the space bar, the tab key should take you to the next question.

6. If the question is one which allows for multiple answers, the first answer will refer to a checkbox. Again, you can select that checkbox using the spacebar, but in this instance, it will be best to use the tab key to move to other answer choices.

7. Be aware that, should you decide to go back and review your answers to previous questions, pressing the tab key will take you to your answer to a particular question without reading the question, so you will need to use the arrow keys to review the question and other possible choices.)

8. When you press enter on the “next” or “previous” buttons, you will sometimes receive a message saying that the button is unavailable. Or, sometimes the screen reader will give some other random, unrelated message. However, it appears that these messages are erroneous and you will actually be moved to the next page. If you encounter problems of this sort, try moving to the top of the page and/or refreshing the screen.

9. If your screen reader seems to be reading the wrong text or is otherwise performing incorrectly, try refreshing the screen.
