About STEM Education

Strong competency and innovation in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are critical for Central Oregon students to be able to compete and excel in today’s workforce. In February 2014, three local STEM providers (High Desert Museum, Oregon State University and the Bend Science Station) received a $25,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Education to develop a plan to secure Central Oregon’s position as a leader in STEM preparedness by developing a regional STEM hub. The State has committed to additional funding based on the disposition of the plan. The first step in developing this plan requires a needs assessment of Central Oregon STEM industries who can identify programs, skills and jobs and that would be helpful in strengthening STEM preparedness. The participation of STEM employers is vital to the development of Oregon STEM jobs and to the education of skilled STEM workers.
