1. The Concertant 2010 Multicore Processor (MCP) Survey
IMPORTANT -- Please read this page before proceeding. It contains important information and definitions.
Those of you who participated in the 2008 survey may be wondering what happened to the 2009 one. We moved the end-2008 survey to the beginning of 2009 to allow people to assess the impact of the recession on them and the MCP market. We have decided to delay the survey by a full year and conduct it now and retitle it the "2010 Survey".
INTRODUCTION
Each year, Concertant surveys the marketplace for multicore processors (MCPs). 2009 saw extensive growth in the marketplace with many hardware and software providers making significant announcements. It also saw further considerable financial turmoil that has effected the processor market.
At Concertant we want to understand the growth in the market; the development of the relevant technologies; the extent to which higher core count processors have penetrated the market; what programming languages and environments are in use; what they are being used for; and their future.
This survey looks beyond dual-core devices. We assume that most of you will already have dual-core processors of various sorts on your desktop or portable machines, some will have four or more cores; so please bear in mind the note below (that for us multicore means four or more cores) when completing the questionnaire.
This survey group includes a wide range of end-users, system specifiers, developers, designers, software and hardware developers, engineers, academics, consultants and others. As a result, your responses will contribute to a very broad-based view of the market.
Notes
- In this survey we define MCPs as being processors having four or more identical processing cores -- and any number of additional subsidiary cores (e.g. for I/O, encryption, etc.) on the same die. They may be homogeneous (having all [major] cores the same) or heterogeneous (with disparate cores)
-
Unless stated otherwise, or made clear by the context, please assume that the term "future", as in for example "future systems", means available within five years, i.e. in market terms roughly before the end of 2014.
-
Questions marked with an asterisk (*) are ones that require an answer.
-
Your answers to certain questions will determine the path that you follow through the questionnaire, so you may not be offered all the questions that some others may see.
The survey should only take you a few minutes to complete.
Thank you for taking part.
This survey is being conducted on behalf of Concertant LLP by SurveyMonkey (http://www.surveymonkey.com).
