These are the SESSION DESCRIPTIONS that you will use as you complete the next 3 questions.
A. Elementary Activities - This session will focus on activities for students that can be done with little or no equipment, small spaces and will also include "make it, take it" activities that participants will be able to take home with them. (*Session leaders are members of the MN DAPE Leadership Organization.)
B. Movement Activities - This session will focus on movement and physical fitness using: fitness balls, aerobics, and yoga style movements that work on so many areas of Motor Skills and Physical Fitness such as: strength, flexibility, endurance, movement concepts, and spacial awareness. (*Session leaders are members of the MN DAPE Leadership Organization.)
C. Transition-Aged Activities - This session will focus on activities for older students that are looking for lifetime leisure skills. The session will also include modification suggestions for success. (*Session leaders are members of the MN DAPE Leadership Organization.)
D. Transitioning from High School? Don’t Forget Assistive Technology! -Transition can be an exciting time with lots of changes, but for those who use assistive technology, a strong transition plan is a very important tool during the process. We will discuss how transitioning to different environments (higher education, independent living, employment, and more) means asking different questions to ensure you are able to successfully use assistive technology. This session will help students and family members identify resources and assistive technology needs to consider during the planning process. E. Assistive Technology Rocks! -Assistive technology can be great for enabling music making by individuals with disabilities and their family members. Come out to this fun session where we will discuss different types of technology that can be used by students of all ability levels, and then, we will play! We will have ways you can play music using switches, on AAC devices, mobile devices and computers. Come rock with the MN STAR Program! F. Assistive Technology Unboxed! -Unboxed and ready for you to see and try, this is an open session for students and family members to explore a wide-range of assistive technology. Come see the latest devices and apps, ask questions, and have fun. (Presenters: Kim Moccia, Program Coordinator, and Jennie Delisi, Assistive Technology Resource Specialist, Minnesota STAR Program)
G. Transition from Pediatric to Adult Medical Services -We will discuss how the delivery of healthcare services changes as children transition to adult models of care. Healthcare Self-Management requires knowledge, skills, and a "can-do" attitude. Topics include bowel and bladder management, self-advocacy, guardianship, and more. H. Sexuality and Assistive Technology: From Friendship to Intimacy -We will discuss friendship and intimacy, what is appropriate and what is possible for people with disabilities. Issues related to intellectual capacity and physical capability will be discussed along with sexual health facts. Speaker: Ronna Linroth, PhD, Manager, Gillette Lifetime Specialty Healthcare
I. Independent Living -We will discuss the importance of activities that will enhance independence in every day life as young people look to move from their family home. Living as independently as possible is a goal of most young people with disabilities and their parents. This presentation will discuss important skill areas and ways to enhance the current level of independence. Topics will include money management, home mainte
