Dear Advocates/Consumers/Providers:

Every three years, as mandated under the Older Americans Act of 1965 and its subsequent amendments, the State Office on Aging, the Department of Aging and Disability Services, as well as Area Agencies on Aging are required to prepare state/area plans. These plans serve as planning documents for the assessment of need, demographic profile of 60+ and caregivers, service delivery strengths and challenges and most importantly, identifies service priorities for future funding which impacts the lives of older adults and their caregivers.

Your input and feedback, as network participants is extremely valuable and therefore we hope that you will take the opportunity to review and complete the brief Area Plan Needs Assessment Form. As you provide input, please keep in mind the following goals as established by the Administration on Aging at the federal level. Administration on Aging Goals:

• Increase the number of older people who have access to an integrated array of health and social supports
• Increase the number of older people who stay active and healthy
• Increase the number of families who are supported in their efforts to care for their loved ones at home and in the community
• Increase the number of older individuals who benefit from programs that protect their rights and prevent elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Thank you in advance for your important input in the development of 2011-2013 plans and funding priorities for Harris County’s sixty plus (60+) population.
