1. Welcome

Welcome to the 2012-13 NCVO Annual Return for Volunteer Centres

The survey provides invaluable data on the activities of Volunteer Centres in England. The results are used by NCVO and the Volunteer Centre network to inform development work and improve practice.

To do this effectively, we need as many Volunteer Centres to respond as possible. Last year, the high response rate (61%) allowed us to speak with confidence about the challenges and achievements of the network, and we received record press coverage and government interest in the results. The results informed our annual plan, fed into our on-going campaigning work around Volunteer Centres, and were used by numerous Volunteer Centres at the local level. And this year we want to get an even higher response rate.

We have also made it easier for you to complete the Annual Return. This year's survey is a lot shorter than previous ones - it concentrates on questions on your income, and doesn't ask about your different functions. We're still interested in this, but will only ask all of the questions every second or third year. So it should be substantially quicker than normal to complete.

This survey is relevant to ALL Volunteer Centres, including those which are accredited and those that are not. If your Volunteer Centre is integrated with another organisation it may be useful for you to liaise with your Chief Executive in order to complete some of the questions.

If you require any assistance in answering the questions please contact Gareth Lloyd on gareth.lloyd@ivr.org.uk or call on 0207 520 3156.

Please note that all information provided should relate to the 2012-13 financial year, which ran from 1st April 2012 to 31st March 2013.

Please make sure that you complete the survey using this online questionnaire. We are NOT able to accept replies using the PDF document - your answers will not be saved or visible to us. Please also complete the online questionnaire in one go - Surveymonkey is unfortunately not able to save your answers if you attempt to complete it in more than one sitting, so apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any technical difficulties, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation.
