APPG on Body Image - invitation to give written evidence
INVITATION TO GIVE WRITTEN EVIDENCE TO THE ALL PARTY PARLIAMENTARY GROUP (APPG) ON BODY IMAGE
The All Party Parliamentary Group on Body Image is conducting an Inquiry into the causes and consequences of body image anxiety in the UK, and some possible solutions to improve body confidence among the general public.
There are multiple factors which influence an individual’s body image and body image anxiety can manifest itself in many ways – from depression, low self-esteem and confidence, to recognised clinical conditions including Anorexia Nervosa, or Body Dysmorphic Disorder. In addition, the quest for the body image “ideal” is associated with unhealthy behaviours, including the adoption of diet regimes, taking laxatives and diet pills/supplements to lose weight, undergoing cosmetic surgery and enhancements and taking steroids to become more muscular.
The Inquiry will begin in November 2011, but we would like to hear from all stakeholders who have an interest in this subject.
