Survey: Marine Spatial Planning

1. Purpose

This survey will gather your input on issues and needs related to conducting marine spatial planning in Washington State’s marine waters. Marine spatial planning is a process for coordinating decisions for coastal and ocean activities and environments in a comprehensive plan. A key element of marine spatial planning is using data, often displayed as maps. For example, a plan usually maps the location of important marine resources and human activities to determine the most appropriate locations for particular uses.

Washington has a new law on marine spatial planning. The first task in this law is for an interagency team to provide recommendations to the legislature about how to use marine spatial planning in Washington. The results of this survey will assist the interagency team in evaluating the needs, gaps and issues to make informed recommendations. The interagency team will draft recommendations in a report that will be available for further public comment in September 2010.

Your answers to this survey are anonymous. However, we will summarize the survey results. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

We are sending this survey to a wide range of people interested in the management of Washington’s marine resources. You can help us by distributing this survey to others who may be interested. Thank you for providing your input!
