From "virtual reference services" to "virtual world reference services"

If you have visited a virtual world library (such as, but not limited to, one in Second Life) and asked a reference question, have you at any time previously used a Web-Based virtual reference service like "Ask a Librarian," "Know-It-Now", or any other Instant Messaging service for live, online help from a librarian? Choose "Yes" or "No."

2. YES-- If you answered "YES", please use the comment field to describe your virtual world reference experience and how it compared to your web-based reference experience. Specifically describe your TRANSITION to a virtual world reference experience as one of the following: "Easy", "Moderate", "Hard". Add additional details in the comment box to explain your choice.

If no additional comments are needed, or you chose "NO" please write "Not Applicable."

IF you answered "NO", choose "Not Applicable" for Questions 2, 3, and 4 and go on to Question 5.

3. YES--If you answered "YES", how many times have you used a WEB-BASED, virtual reference service?

4. YES--If you answered "YES", how many times have you used a VIRTUAL WORLD reference service, such as one found in Second Life or other virtual worlds?

5. NO-- If you answered "NO", use the comment box to indicate which of the two virtual reference services you have used in the past, "Web-Based", "Virtual World".

6. NO-- If you answered "NO", explain your level of INTEREST in using the type of service mentioned that you have not yet tried as either "LOW" "MEDIUM" or "HIGH". Indicate whether your reference service interest in the one(s) you have not yet tried is for "WEB-BASED" "VIRTUAL WORLD" "BOTH" OR "NEITHER" and any additional details in the comment box to explain your choice as needed. If you chose "YES", or no additional comments are needed, please write "Not Applicable."

On a scale of 1-5 (with 1 being UNACCEPTABLE and 5 being RECOMMENDED), please rate your overall current satisfaction using traditional (brick and mortar) library and virtual library reference services.
