You are being asked to participate in a research study assessing Australian dentists’ knowledge and attitudes to HIV and your willingness as a dentist to conduct rapid HIV testing with your patients on their presentation to your surgery. The rapid HIV test indicates whether HIV antibodies are present and can provide results within 20 minutes using oral fluid or a blood/finger prick sample. This research is being conducted by Dr. Anthony Santella, Dr. Tim Schlub, A/Professor Richard Hillman and A/Professor Mark Schifter of the University of Sydney. This survey is for registered dentists in Australia.
As a participant, you will be asked to fill out a survey that should take approximately 10 minutes. Your responses are completely anonymous and no individual answers will be shared with anyone outside the research team. There are no foreseen risks or discomfort associated with this project. While there is no direct benefit to you for participation in the study, it is reasonable to expect that the results may provide information of value in your field and, potentially, may influence dental education and practice.
Your identity as a participant will remain anonymous. Your name will not be included in any forms, questionnaires, etc. This consent form is the only document identifying you as a participant in this study; it will be stored securely in Dr. Santella's office. Results will be reported by program and in the aggregate; this means that responses will be analysed and presented only as groups.
