Town centres across the UK are facing unprecedented challenges… Balham’s town centre is no different. As consumer behaviours change, demographics shift, and trends evolve, understanding how we can better work together to preserve the heart of our communities and commerce will be important to ensuring their vibrancy and success.
The Portas Review highlighted that town centres needs a clear vision, strategy and direction. That is why, over the next few months, Wandsworth Borough Council is undertaking an important study to identify how their five town centres - including Balham town centre - are doing today, and to understand how they can be competitively positioned for the future.
In Balham, this work is building off the important engagement Wandsworth Council has been conducting over the past year to enliven our public realm through the Outer London Fund Programme. This is the natural next step which helps us to understand how we begin to connect the dots and create a strategy for successfully managing, growing and marketing Balham town centre in the future.
