Pay Equity and Community Sector Commitment Survey

Pay Equity and Sector Commitment Survey

On May 6, 2009, the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) made a landmark decision on pay equity that acknowledged the chronic undervaluation of women's work in Queensland's community services sector. It awarded pay rises of between 18% and 37% to the workers concerned, 80% of whom were women.

On March 11, 2010 the Australian Services Union (ASU) filed an application with Fair Work Australia (FWA) for an equal remuneration order aimed at extending Queenslands gains nation-wide.

Prior to determining the application, FWA found that community sector workers are undervalued, and that the undervaluation is attributable to gender. As a result we are keen to collate and capture the impact and flow on effect of equal remuneration or pay parity on retention, attraction and recruitment of staff to the community services sector.

Please complete the following quick 10 questions to support this data collection and reporting.

We will repeat this measure after implementation of the national equal remuneration order to further test and validate our findings.

I would be happy to spend the rest of my career within the community services sector.
I really feel as if the community services sector's problems are my own.
I do not feel a strong sense of "belonging" to the community services sector.
People at my work are likely at any time to announce they are leaving to take another job.
I do not feel "emotionally attached" to the community services sector.
The community services sector has a great deal of personal meaning for me.
Working in the community services sector is motivating and personally rewarding.

I think about looking for another job most days I am at work.
I have invested too much time in the community services sector to consider working elsewhere.
Leaving the community services sector now would require considerable personal sacrifice.
For me personally, the costs of leaving the community services sector would be far greater than the benefits.
I would not leave the community services sector because of what I would stand to lose.
If I decided to leave the community services sector, too much of my life would be disrupted.
I continue to work in the community services sector because I dont believe other sectors could offer the benefits I have here.

When I interviewed for this job, I was not given an accurate description of the work role and its career prospects.
I do not feel any obligation to remain with my current employer.
Even if it were to my advantage, I do not feel it would be right to leave my organisation right now.
I would feel guilty if I left my organisation now.
This organisation deserves my loyalty.
I would not leave my organisation right now because I have a sense of obligation to the people in it.
I owe a great deal to my organisation.
