Traffic Calming in Malmesbury - a simple 4-page 10 question survey
1. Introduction - Existing Speed Bumps
Nearly two decades ago speed reducing cushions (SRC) were installed in the High Street, Oxford Street, Holloway, Gloucester Street, Abbey Row, and the Triangle areas of Malmesbury. In those days the only way to reduce the speed of traffic to 20mph was to have a traffic calming measure put in place. Now from the beginning of 2010, there is no necessity to have SRC to impose a 20mph speed zone. From January 2010, local authorities have the power to remove or redesign SRC whilst still maintaining the 20 mph zone. At the time of their installation the County Council undertook to review the effectiveness of the calming measures but have never done so. This Council feels that such a review is long overdue and therefore is now issuing this survey. We (MTC) have been in contact with a road and traffic management consultancy and their advice is to seek public opinion. Once the results have been compiled, they will be presented to Wiltshire Council through the Area Board for their consideration and comments. The locations of these Speed Reducing Cushions (SRC) are as follows - please indicate whether you feel they are necessary or not:
