5. How important would you rate each of the following principles:

 Extremely ImportantImportantNot Important
1. Consists of a process that brings together two parties to draw on and share their experience and knowledge, and is supported by a third party.
2. Is a voluntary process for all parties based on trust and mutual respect, and benefits all participants.
3.Organisations ensure the supported party leads the process and their needs, choices and goals are paramount. They form the basis for the agreed process.
4. Has a time commitment agreed by all parties.
5. Is a confidential process, within certain declared boundaries, depending on the individual circumstances. All parties agree to abide by these boundaries.
6. Organisations should train their volunteers effectively to support them to carry out their role and regularly review the support offered to them.
7. Gives all parties the right to be protected and safe from harm. Each organisation needs to implement appropriate policies and practices to ensure that safe practice is followed by all participants.
8. Support for each relationship is the responsibility of the organisation: rigorous and consistent monitoring and evaluation processes should be in place to achieve this.
