Next Generation: 20-40 year olds

1. Next Generation - a survey for 20 to 40 year olds managers and professionals

I am running for Local and Regional Councillor for Milton's north wards (2,3,4,5). I would like to hear from the Next Generation: the 20-40yr old professionals and managers. We need to engage this group or risk a critical shortage of talented workers and citizens. This survey has no official status - it is for me alone but the results will provide some direction for me in my decision-making at at the council table. Together we can make Milton a better place to live.

1. VITALITY.
Referring to the quality of air and water, the amount of green space (parks, trails, woodlots) accessibility to skiing and snowboarding in winter, cycling, hiking all the rest of the year, etc, in Milton, what is your general impression: favourable? Negative? Please explain.

2. EARNING.
What do you feel your long-term options are in Milton; our town's future potential for job growth, the diversity of employment opportunities, for jobs in your sector?

3. LEARNING.
In terms of the town's commitment to higher learning - is it important to you that we may see a Wilfred Laurier University campus being built within a couple of years?
Are libraries important to you and your family?

4. SOCIAL CAPITAL.
Great talent comes in every race, creed, and colour. What is your perception of how safe, open and accessible Milton is to all people?
Voter participation rates are low which indicate a lack of commitment to the community but there are other measures. What is your perception of Milton regarding diversity, crime rates, and the percentage of women- and minority-owned businesses?

5. COST of LIFESTYLE.
Students and young professionals are just getting started in their careers, and for many, affordability is key. What do you feel about the cost of living in Milton, the cost of accommodation, food on the table, clothes on your back, and a warm bed at night? (Note: Milton's taxes are lower than any other municipality in the GTA, except for Toronto whose taxes are artificially low due to special user fees)

6. AFTER HOURS.
There’s more to life than work. Is there enough to do in Milton, enough places to go and things to do after work and on weekends. An Arts & Entertainment Centre will be built by March, 2011 - are you aware of it? Do you currently take in the local entertainment - plays, orchestral and symphonic productions, Chorister productions?
Are the sports facilities adequate? Is anything missing?

7. AROUND TOWN.
How easy is it to get to where you want to go in Milton? This question measures our town’s “walkability,” commute times, and mass transit opportunities.
Do you or anyone in your family use Milton Transit? GO trains?
Any comments about public transportation?

8. I would like to hear what you have to say. If you are part of the Next Generation (20-40years old) professionals and managers, and interested in joining a panel through which I could seek input on issues before council, please provide your name, email address, and the ward in which you reside.

Working together, we can change the way things are done in Milton. Thank you for taking the time to work through this survey
