When assessing an older patient for depression, it is most helpful to interview family members separately
A clinician should try to determine whether an older patient has depression, anxiety, or both, since this diagnosis will influence the treatment
Older patients should be titrated to no more than 1/2 the usual effective dose of the appropriate medicaiton

Please respond to the following case:

The time elapsed since the onset of her mood change is not long enough to warrant treatment for depression
A change in mood would be exprected in a patient with a recent diagnosis of retinopathy, and no immediate treatment is necessary
Ms. A should be started on a low dose antidepressant
