1. 2010 Green Building Webinar Series Registration

In the U.S. buildings account for 40 percent of energy consumption, 39 percent of CO2 emissions, 13 percent of water consumption, and 15 percent of the Gross Domestic Product annually, according to the U.S. Green Building Council. With an ever-increasing awareness of sustainability, the passing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants program, as well as the requirements of S.L. 2007-546 (http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2007/Bills/Senate/PDF/S668v6.pdf) to reduce energy and water consumption in new and existing government buildings, now is a time for action!

NC Project Green will be hosting a Green Building Webinar Series. Over the course of 6 webinars participants will learn about the basic green building practices, how to adopt these practices in government buildings , green building policies and programs, and financing opportunities. Each webinar is designed to be a stand-alone session, but participating in all webinars will ensure that you have a comprehensive overview of the subject matter and extensive tools and resources to green your building.

The webinar dates, topics, and confirmed speakers are as follows:

• January 21, 2-4 pm- Introduction and overview to green building: Dona Stankus (NC Solar Center)

• February 10, 2-4 pm - Green building policy and practices in North Carolina: Ralph Taylor (State Construction Office), David Jones and Shannon Caveny-Cox (UNC Charlotte), and Tobin Freid (Durham City/County)

• March 10, 2-4 pm - New construction case study- The Green Square Project: Jill Pafford and Victoria Tillotson (NC DENR)

• April 28, 2-4 pm - Retrofitting and renovating existing buildings: Len Hoey (State Energy Office), Butch Shumate and Steve Randall (City of Greensboro), and Michael Hughes (State Construction Office)

• May 12, 2-4 pm - Green schools (K-12): Mike Nicklas (Innovative Designs), Leo Bobadilla and Andrew LaRowe (Guilford County Schools), and Charles Lamm (Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools)

• June 9, 2-4 pm - Green technologies showcase: Daniel Arneman (UNC Chapel Hill), Dr. Rose Johnson (Haywood Community College), and Paula Thomas (City of Raleigh)
