Gender Identity and the Experience of Pregnancy and Childbirth
1. Welcome
My name is Shoshana Sanders and I am a midwife doing research on how female-bodied individuals in the GLBTQ community experience pregnancy and childbirth, and in particular the experiences of those individuals who identify as ‘gender-queer’, ‘gender-fluid’ and/or ‘butch’.
My preliminary research has showed that that there is very little existing information on this important topic. To help fill this hole, I am currently conducting this survey of women from the GLBTQ community regarding their pregnancy and birth experiences.
The overall purpose of this anonymous survey is to help inform midwives and other professional childbirth providers about how to better serve and support members of the GLBTQ community. The process of pregnancy and childbirth is often a transformative and emotionally complex one, and it is critical that care-providers understand the specific needs of the diverse communities they serve.
The survey should take just 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this important work.
Sincerely,
Shoshana L Sanders
